Nigerian school: BrainChess Academy Unveils Schools Chess Championship 2026

BrainChess Academy has unveiled the BrainChess Schools Chess Championship 2026, a landmark initiative that will bring together primary school teams from across Africa in what is set to become one of the continent’s largest chess championships. The tournament is designed to promote critical thinking, leadership, teamwork, and educational excellence through the game of chess.

Scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, the championship is expected to host 200 participating schools, more than 1,000 student players, and over 1,500 attendees, positioning it as one of Africa’s most significant primary school chess events.

The championship reflects BrainChess Academy’s commitment to expanding access to chess education while creating opportunities for young learners to develop strategic thinking, confidence, resilience, and leadership skills through healthy competition and cultural exchange.

Speaking on the championship, Abidogun Peter, Founder and CEO of BrainChess Academy, said:

“Africa is home to some of the world’s brightest young minds. Through the BrainChess Schools Chess Championship, we are building a platform that nurtures critical thinking, leadership, collaboration, and meaningful connections across borders. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to unlock their full potential through chess.”

The championship is being delivered in partnership with Vetrinox Capital, the headline sponsor of the 2026 championship, whose support reflects a shared commitment to investing in education, youth development, and the future of Africa’s next generation. The partnership further strengthens the championship’s capacity to provide young learners with a platform to compete, connect, and develop skills that extend beyond the chessboard.

Beyond the competition, the championship seeks to inspire educational excellence while fostering unity among young people from different African countries. By bringing together schools from across the continent, BrainChess Academy hopes to encourage collaboration, cultural exchange, and lifelong friendships among participants.

The Academy is partnering with schools, educators, corporate organizations, government institutions, development partners, and the wider chess community to deliver a championship that celebrates academic excellence while preparing the next generation of African leaders.

Registration for the championship officially opened in the first week of August 2026, inviting eligible primary schools from across Africa to participate in this historic event. Additional information on registration, tournament format, participating countries, and event activities will be released through BrainChess Academy’s official communication channels in the coming weeks.

BrainChess Academy also welcomes sponsorships and strategic partnerships from organizations committed to advancing education, youth development, and innovation across Africa.
